Welcome to the
Greater Des Moines Community Band!
The Greater Des Moines Community Band was established in 1987 with a group of musicians who enjoy sharing their love of music with the community. The band has grown to an ensemble of over 75 regular players ages 18 to 80+. A Fall, Holiday, and Spring concerts are held at Stilwell Junior High School in West Des Moines. Summer concerts are held weekly from Memorial Day to the end of August at various retirement centers, the Iowa State Fair, and other locations where arranged.
Membership
The Greater Des Moines Community Band has members in and around the Des Moines Metro area. Our members come from Des Moines and West Des Moines as well as the cities of Clive, Johnston, Ankeny, and Urbandale. We also have members from Altoona, Waukee, Ames, Newton, Perry, Dallas Center, Grimes, Cumming, Norwalk,.Indianola, Colfax, Ackworth, and Bondurant.
Performances
The ensemble performs year round. Performances include concerts in the fall, winter and spring and starting Memorial Day weekend, concerts occur on a weekly basis in and around the area at various venues that include retirement communities, the WWII Memorial Remembrance, the National Balloon Festival Parade, and the Iowa State Fair. The band is a frequent performer at the Boone Municipal Band Festival. In May of 2019, the band performed as part of the John Wayne Festival, giving a concert on the south lawn of the courthouse.
